Karsten Schrör, MD

Karsten Schrör, MD, was a professor of pharmacology and Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology, Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf, Germany. He was also the President of the German Society for Pharmacology. He held residencies with Wellcome Research Laboratories in the UK, Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, University of Carolina at Charleston, and the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston. He is best known for his work on the cardiovascular effects of prostaglandins.
Dr. Schrör has written more than 700 publications and reviews as well as several books on physiological and pharmacological aspects of ischemic vessel occlusions. Topics include pharmacology of platelet aggregation, blood coagulation, prostaglandins, cellular effects of coagulation factors and signal transduction in vascular smooth muscle cells. He also wrote the book Acetylsalicylic Acid, a comprehensive treaty of the history, pharmacological effects, and clinical applications of one of the most successful drugs of all time.
